On Thursday, June 17, 2021, Beyond 21st Century Beauty Academy barber students provided free haircuts for the Bell Gardens Senior Center's Father's Day event. It had been over a year since we’ve participated in any community events, so it felt great to be back.
The city hosted a Father’s Day celebration with free haircuts, gifts, snacks, and beverages for residents 55 and older. Beyond’s President, Miss Maria, explained her excitement to start returning to local events - “We’re all about giving back. These past 15 months have been challenging for everyone but there is something about a new haircut that gives you a fresh perspective and outlook on the future.”
Bell Gardens is located about 10 miles away from Downtown LA in southeastern Los Angeles County, neighboring the cities of Downey, South Gate, Bell, and Commerce. Bell Garden’s history dates back to the 1700s. The oldest home in Los Angeles County can be found in Bell Gardens, it was built in 1810 and is now known as the Casa de Rancho San Antonio (or Gage Mansion).
